What's actually working for me in hooks lately

Been messing with different hook styles the past couple of weeks and a few are just landing way harder than the rest. Sharing in case anyone else is experimenting.

What's working for me right now:

  • Unpopular opinion openers: "Unpopular opinion: cold outreach isn't dead, you're just doing it wrong." People can't help themselves, they have to argue in the comments.
  • A specific mistake I made: "I cost a client a $30K retainer because of one line in a proposal." The specificity is what pulls people in, not the drama.
  • Short confession: "I've been on LinkedIn for 9 years and I just figured out the obvious thing." Humility beats authority about 2:1 for me lately.

Nothing scientific, just what I'm seeing in my own analytics. What's working for you? Curious if anyone's finding the opposite.

The 'specific mistake' one is my whole strategy lately. Real numbers + real stakes = real engagement. Vague wisdom posts are dead.

Found the same with confession openers. Counter-intuitive for sales folks (we're trained to project authority), but vulnerability outperforms by a wide margin for me.
